My 2 Simple Avocado recipes (For age 5+ months)

2
Oh my darling Avocados! I love Avocados. I still remember seeing our son's face when he first tasted pureed avocado- Wow, it was priceless!. I give him avocados three times a week, sometimes more. Usually babies will love it due to their mild flavor, beautiful color and creamy texture. Avocados are one of the best first fresh foods you can introduce to your baby. Yes, these recipes are absolutely 'NO COOK' treat for your little-ones and easy for busy Moms.

Recipe 1

Avocado puree and avocado mash (3 Servings each)

Ingredients
Ripe Avocado- 1
Liquid (Water, breast milk, whole milk or formula)

Process
Step 1: Cut the avocado in half and remove the stone.

Step 2: Scoop out the flesh with a spoon.

Step 3: (For making avocado puree): Place them in blender. Start blending on low, adding desired liquid (water, breast milk, whole milk or formula) until you have a smooth puree.

Step 3: (For making avocado mash): Place them in a bowl and mash it with a fork. I always use my mash & bowl to mash the avocados.

Serve fresh! You can also store it in freezer if you have leftover.

Recipe 2

Avocado+banana (1 serving)

Ingredients
Avocado- 1/2
Banana- 1/2

Process
Step 1: Cut the avocado in half and remove the stone.

Step2 : Scoop out the flesh with a spoon.

Step 3: Peel the banana and cut in half.

Step 4: Mash the avocado together with the banana and add liquid (whole milk/ breast milk/ formula) to reach desired consistency.

Serve fresh! I usually do not make them in large quantities since banana and/or avocado turn brown when frozen.

Beef Carrot Stew (For age: 15 months+)

0
I was thinking, what should be the recipe in my first post? Okay, why not start with a yummy BEEF CARROT STEW, my son's new favorite.

Ingredients (4 serving)
Beef (chuk roast) - 10 oz, cut into very small cubes.
Baby carrots- 5 oz, cut into small pieces.
Cherry tomatoes- 4 oz
Water- 1/2 Cup
Chopped Parsley- 2 Tbsp
Ginger and garlic paste or (minced 2 cloves of garlic and a small piece ginger chopped) - 1 Tsp
All purpose flour- 1 Tsp
Pinch of spices (pepper, turmeric powder (optional) and ground fennel seed)
Salt, to taste

Process
Step 1: Add beef, carrots and tomatoes to the cooking pot (I choose pressure cooker; you could choose slow cooker if you wish).

Step 2: Season the meat and vegetables with salt, spices, ginger garlic paste and chopped parsley. Add 1/2 cup water. Lock the pressure cooker lid in place and bring to high pressure over high heat and cook for 4-5 whistles or, cook until the vegetables are fully cooked and the meat is almost falling apart.

Step 3: Add flour to this and stir well.

Step 4: Using a potato masher or a stick whisk, mash vegetables and beef until broth is thickened. If you want to make it thin later, you can add hot water.

Stew is ready to serve! You can serve it by itself or with Rice/ Mashed potatoes.

Gearing Up For Baby's first solid: My 10 Must-Haves!

0
Starting solid foods is one of the most exciting milestones of your baby's first year. For me, YES, it was a big deal. I had lots of questions like, homemade versus store-bought, organic versus non-organic?. So, what’s the best food strategy? still I don't know. That’s OK! choose whatever is comfortable for you and your little-one. Feeding baby solids doesn't need to be a challenge. Here are few things (my choices) you should keep in hand while you start baby's first solid. My 10 must haves! (these are my products of choice). Oh wait, an important one, Camera!. There’s nothing more adorable than a picture of a happy baby cheerfully smearing food on his face and everywhere else :).

1. When your baby starts eating solids, High Chair is a mealtime must-have. But my son started in an Infant Seat until he could sit up well without support (around 6-7 months).

2. Oh, the perfect pocket Waterproof Bib is a must have for messy eating little-ones! you will need this.

3. This  Masher & Bowl makes it quick and easy to prepare fresh baby food. You can simply mash banana, avocado, any steamed vegetables on its own or with a little milk or formula.
Food masher & bowl (Brand: Annabel Karmel)

 4. These Bowls are my favorite because you can store and serve baby food in this. These are microwave safe, warm before you serve.
Bowls (Brand: The First Years Take & Toss)

5. I was looking for a Plate that has more than one sections to prevent foods from mixing and this one is perfect. Now I can serve individual foods in each sections.
Plate (Brand: Nuby)

6. Yes, for a solid starter, you need Soft tip Spoons for their little mouth and sensitive gums.
Soft tip spoon (Brand: Gerber Graduates)

7. Steaming is the best way to cook ingredients because it preserves the most nutrients.  Any kind of Steamer, like a steamer basket will do the job but this tiny steamer is perfect for quick microwave steaming of fruits and vegetables.
Steamer (Brand: Fresh start)

8. You can choose any Food Processor, I chose this because it can be used to make, store & serve baby food. The best thing is, you can keep this in hand while you are travelling too.
Baby Food Processor Make Store & Serve (Brand: Dex Baby)

9. Learner Cups help make the transition from bottle to cup easier. Choose the one which is spill-proof and soft spout.
Learner cup (Brand: NUK)

10. Fresh Food Feeder allows your baby to enjoy all the delicious flavor and nutrition of whole food. Our little-one LOVED it. However, it is not easy to clean.  Banana is the worst (and of course his favorite).  It’s also great for soothing teething pain. Just pop an ice cube or cold fruit inside.
